MAX (MENDEL) WINESTOCK Surrounded by his loving family, Max (Mendel) Winestock peacefully passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2001 at the age of 81, at the Sharon Home. Max is remembered by his wife of 55 years, Rae; his children, Larry and Barbara Winestock, Paul and Jackie Winestock; his grandchildren, Gabriel, Bailey, Joshua, and Benjamin; his sister-in-law Rosa Weinstock; nieces, Perla (Hans) Hunseder and Gina (Detlev) Ruskowski; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Max was predeceased by his family who perished in the horrors of the Holocaust. His parents, Peshe and Lazar Winestock, his sisters, Chana, Leah and Rosa Winestock; along with numerous other family members. Maxs brother Srulik Weinstock predeceased him on January 17, 2001 in Erding, Germany. Max was born in Wolbrom Poland on October 3, 1919. After suffering the atrocities of the Holocaust, Max emigrated to Winnipeg in 1949 to start a new life with his young family. Max was self-employed as a livestock dealer for many years. It was his life, where he developed many long lasting friendships throughout Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Max was well respected in the agricultural community and worked at that until his forced retirement due to his illness. Max was a quiet, kind, and generous man who cherished his family, especially his grandchildren. Max was a devoted member of the Chevra Mishnayes Synagogue. Four years ago Maxs life entered a dark time where he was robbed of the simple pleasures of life by Alzheimers Disease. In November 1999, Max moved to the Sharon Home. The family is grateful for the kind, compassionate care he received there. Words cannot express our gratitude for the nursing staff of the Sharon Home, Alana, Pat, Arlene, and others; companions, Carole, Rebecca, Lolita, and Leonid, and Rabbi Rose. Funeral services were held at the Rosh Pina Synagogue on Tuesday, January 23 officiated by Rabbi Rose and Cantor Gerry Daien, with internment at the Shaarey Zedek Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Sam Cherny, Norman Chochinov, Bruce Sarbit, Rick Wolfson, Perry Rubenfeld and Neil Duboff. Donations in Maxs memory can be made to the Sharon Home, 146 Magnus Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R2W 2B4; The Chevra Mishnayes Synagogue, 700 Jefferson Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R2V 0P6; or to a charity of your choice.
