Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERD WILKEN SCHULTE October 1, 1907 - January 19, 2001 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Gerd Wilken Schulte on Friday, January 19, 2001 at the Concordia Hospital, at the age of 93 years. Gerd will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his sons, Hans (Erika) of Germany, Gerold (Ruth) of Lac Du Bonnet; his daughters, Gerda (Arthur) Sommerfeld of Whitemouth, Annegret (Arthur) Hiller, Christa Hiller and Erika (Bodo) Brandt, all from Winnipeg as well as his 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn are his sister Grietje of Germany, as well as numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and their extended families. He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Gretchen of 62 years on October 4, 2000; one granddaughter; his parents; three brothers; one sister; his parents-in-law; two sisters-in-law; two nephews and one niece. Dad was born the eldest of six children in Bunderhee, Ostfriesland. In 1927, Dad along with two of his brothers and their father moved to Boesel, Germany to prepare a new homestead for their family. His mother and sister joined them in 1929. The reunion was short lived because on January 1, 1930, his mother passed away at the age of 46 years. Dad met and fell in love with our mother in Ahrensdorf, Germany sometime in the mid 1930s. They were married on March 19, 1938 and settled on the Schulte family homestead in Boesel, Germany. On November 29, 1959 the family set sail for their new home in Canada, leaving behind a part of their heart - a link of their chain, their eldest son and brother Hans. After a brief stop in Quebec City on December 9, the family continued their journey and arrived in Whitemouth on December 12, 1959, which became and remained their home until his passing. Friends may pay their respects on Wednesday, January 24 at Sobering Funeral Chapel, Beausejour, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a devotional service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 25 at 2:00 p.m. at the Whitemouth Fellowship Church. Viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment to follow at the Whitemouth Fellowship Cemetery. The family would like to extend their thanks to the Concordia Hospital Staff, especially Henni Slikker for her care and compassion and to the Whitemouth Home Care Team. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Whitemouth Fellowship Church or the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, Mb, R3A 1P6. You walked quietly thru life A kind and gentle man. Tho you may not have reached out to many For those of us whose lives you touched An emptiness will always remain. Your smile well no longer see Your hand well no longer hold Our love for you we will never let go. In tears we saw you sinking We watched you fade away. You suffered much in silence, You fought so hard to stay. You faced your task with courage, Your spirit did not bend But still you kept on fighting, Until the very end. God saw you getting tired, When a cure was not to be He put his arms around you And whispered Come to Me. So when we saw you sleeping So peaceful, free from pain, We could not wish you back To suffer that again. Gott mit Dir, bis wir uns wieder sehn, Ruhe in Frieden. In Liebe verbunden Deine Kinder, Enkel und Urenkel. SOBERING FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM Beausejour, Mb. in care of arrangements. Mb. toll free 1-877-776-2220.
