Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFREDERICK G. HOLLAND Peacefully on Sunday, January 21, 2001, Fred Holland passed away with his family at his side. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 52 years, Elsie; son Ron (Leigh) daughters, Shirley (Edward), Suzanne (Walter) and Francine (Rick). He will also be sadly missed by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he loved so much, and by his relatives and friends. Fred was a lifelong resident of Winnipeg. Railroading was his passion since childhood, and he spent half of his working career on the CPR, then at the University of Manitoba until his retirement in 1987. During the Second World War, Fred served overseas with the Canadian Armoured Corp., then, taking advantage of an exchange program between Allied countries, he served as a waist gunner in a B-17 bomber with the U.S. 8th Army Airforce Bombardment Group. Freds other passions in life were hunting, spending winters in his beloved Arizona, and lazy summer days at Laclu, Ont., and Brereton Lake with Elsie at his side. He also enjoyed many years as a Trainman on the Prairie Dog Central Steam Train. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 26, at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. A very warm thanks to the wonderful Unit 5 nurses on the 5th floor of the Victoria Hospital, the Oncology staff, and Dads homecare workers, Carla, Cory and Peter. If friends so desire, donations can be made in Freds memory to the Canadian Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg Man., R3A 1P6, or the charity of their choice.
