ALEXANDER GWYNNE Peacefully at home, Alexander Gwynne, born January 13, 1915, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2001. Alex leaves to mourn his wife of 52 years, Isabel; children, Michael, Cathy (Randy) Beynon and Paul (Marcy) grandchildren, Valerie and Dale Beynon; sisters-in-law, Joyce McFarland and Alice McFaddin as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Alex was predeceased by brother Samuel and sisters, Catherine Parsons and Esther Gwynne. Alex was born in Winnipeg, graduating from Daniel MacIntyre Collegiate in 1932. He worked various jobs during the Depression and served in the RCAF from 1942 to 1946. After returning from overseas, he attended United College where he received his B.A. in 1950. Alex met Isabel McFarland and they married on September 10, 1949. He subsequently received his B. Ed. from the University of Manitoba. His teaching career began at Mulvey School. Also, he taught at Robert H. Smith, Harrow Laura Secord and Gordon Bell. He finished his teaching career at Kelvin High School where he taught for 12 years. He was a member of the Central YMCA for over 60 years and over the last years enjoyed meeting his new friends at the YMHA. After he retired in 1980, Alex and Isabel enjoyed traveling in North America and overseas. He and Isabel have been members of Westworth United Church since its founding. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 27, at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with Reverend Clark Saunders officiating. A gathering for family and friends will follow in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alexs memory to your favourite charity.
