ALICE BLASKIEWICZ (CHYCHALUK) Peacefully, on Wednesday, January 24, 2001 at Holy Family Nursing Home, Alice passed away at the age of 90. Alice was predeceased by her parents George and Mary, her husband Anthony, her five brothers Sam, John, Matt, Milton and Alex and her two sisters Ann Borys and Jessie Dutchak. Alice is survived by her niece Doreen Chichiluk, whom she considered her daughter; her great-niece Corinna Chichiluk-Rochon (Jean-Paul) her great-great niece Emily, numerous other nieces, nephews and friends. Aunty was born in Rossburn, Manitoba on July 28, 1910. She lived on a farm in Rossburn until she married Uncle Anton in 1934. In 1937 they moved to Winnipeg and from 1950 to 1960 they owned and operated Avenue Lunch in St. James. Aunt Alice was famous for her home cooked meals and in particular, her apple pies. In 1950, Aunt Alice took on the lifelong commitment of being the mother I never had. I will forever cherish her memory, her love and all that she taught me. I thank her for being the best great aunt Corinna could have had. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 29 at St. Basils Ukrainian Catholic Church, 202 Harcourt with Rev. I. Dziadyk officiating. Interment to follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, followed by a gathering of family and friends at St. Basils. We wish to express a thank you to the St. Pauls staff of Holy Family Nursing Home and a special thank-you to nephew Lawrence Urban and niece Diana Dunn.
