ARTHUR JOHN CARLSON Peacefully, Arthur John Carlson passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2001. Arthur was born in Fort Frances, ON on January 26, 1915. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 57 years, Marjorie; his children, William (Corinne) and James (Diane) his grandchildren, Suzanne (Karl), Adam, Bryce, Kathryn, Mackenzie, and Dane, and his great-grandchild Seth. Arthur received his BSC (Civil Engineering) from Queens University in Kingston, ON, and his MASC (Public Health Engineering) from the University of Toronto, in 1942. Upon graduation, Arthur served as District Engineer in several locations in Canada for the Department of National Health and Welfare. After the war, he accepted a position in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Manitoba where he taught for 37 years and retired as Professor (Emeritus) of the Department of Civil Engineering and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. He was very active in many areas of his profession of engineering and education. Arthur had a passion for teaching engineering and was endeared and respected by all of his many students who attended his classes during his years at the University. He was a devoted member of St. Georges Anglican Church and could be seen in his usual seat at each Sunday morning service with Marj by his side. He also loved curling and playing bridge but his primary love was spending quality time with his wife and children and their families. Arthur was a wonderful husband and father and will be sadly missed by all. The family would like to thank the staff at Victoria General Hospital for all of their help and support through this difficult time. A memorial service celebrating Arthurs life will be held in St. Georges Anglican Church, 168 Wilton St., Winnipeg, MB at 2:00 on Monday, January 29. Interment will be at St. Johns Cathedral Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Georges Memorial Fund Inc., or to a charity of ones choice. A.J. will be lovingly remembered and will live on in our hearts, homes and lives forever. When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet (Proverbs 3:24) THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
