OVILA (GEORGE) COUTURE Passed away peacefully to join his wife, Cecile, on January 28, 2001. Ovila is mourned by his daughter Claudette (Maurice) Laurin, grandchildren Suzanne (Brent) Smalley, Mylaine Lefteruk, Marc (Tracey) Laurin; great grandchildren Neil and Mannon Smalley, Holly Lefteruk, Emma Laurin. Also mourning are his sisters Irene LeBlanc, Ida Pirson; in-laws Yolande Pereux, Lorraine Prejet, Monique (Max) Armstrong, Alban (Jeannine) Prejet; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Cecile, Ovila was also predeceased by his parents, Theodore and Annie (Parker) Couture, his sisters Clementine Chilton, Alexina Wilson, Lydia and brother Ernest Couture. Ovila was born June 11, 1917. He married Cecile Prejet July 8, 1940 and they continued to reside in St. Boniface. Ovila was very proud of his 41 years of service as a salesperson with Imperial Tobacco where he was well respected and gained many long-lasting friendships. Ovila took pleasure in bowling, hunting and fishing. In retirement, Ovila and Cecile enjoyed the farm in St. Claude, Manitoba and annual trips to the U.S. Family was very important to Ovila. When Cecile was ill at Tache Centre, Ovila dedicated himself to ensuring she had the best care. It would be true to say that everyone in his immediate and extended families felt that they had a special relationship with him, in fact, even his grandchildren called him Dad. Ovila was full of wit and had a great sense of humour. Claudette and family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Dr. Blight, all 6A and Palliative Care staff at St. Boniface Hospital. Special thanks to the Pastoral Care. Ovila was treated with great compassion and dignity. Ovila was a fighter and overcame many hardships. Now he is at peace. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 31, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Boniface Cathedral, 190 Cathedral Avenue, with Mgr. Albert Frechette presiding. Viewing will be held one-half hour prior to service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, family request donations be made in Ovilas memory to the Tache Nursing Centre, 185 Despins Street, WPG MB R2H 2B3 or the Society for Manitobans with Disabilities, 825 Sherbrook Avenue, WPG MB, R3A 1M5.
