MATILDA (TILLIE) STONEHAM (nee GUTKNECHT) Peacefully on January 29, 2001 at the Ashern Personal Care Home, Mom passed away. Tillie lived all her life in Ashern. In 1933 she married Cyril, and together they farmed until his death in 1973. In 1979, Mom became a town-lady. She had many hobbies including sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, gardening, collecting recipes and jokes. Mom spent many years of her life volunteering for the 4-H Club, the Manitoba Womens Institute (Hospital Guild), the Pioneer Museum and the United Church. Mom was also known as "Granny" and will be greatly missed. Grannys sense of humour will never be forgotten, and she could always turn a bad situation into something funny. We know that she will be up in Heaven making sauerkraut for all of the Saints. Mom is survived by sons Lawrence (June), Frank (Evelyn), Harold (Vivianne) her sisters Irene, Mary and Alma; sisters-in-law Eileen, Velma and Mae; ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Mom was predeceased by her husband Cyril in 1973; sisters Olga and Helen; brothers Bill, Louis, Henry, August and Emil; her father in 1942 and mother in 1984. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 2 at the Ashern United Church with the Rev. Canon Fr. Ron McCullough officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment to follow in the United Churchyard Cemetery. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Lee Isaacs and his staff and all the health care givers for the wonderful care they gave our Mom and Granny over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ashern United Church Memorial Fund, c/o Carole McDougall, Box 248, Ashern, MB R0C 0E0. Arrangements in care of: Arnason Funeral Homes Ltd.
