Born in Winnipeg in 1902, Sarah was the oldest daughter of William and Lucy Armstrong. Sarah and her sisters, Jessie and Mary, grew up on Alexander Avenue, and later, on Sherburn Street. The girls enjoyed attending Sunday school and CGIT at Old St. Andrew Church on Elgin Avenue. Sarah attended Dufferin School and completed grade 11 at Issac Brock School. She spent many hours with her grandchildren teaching them how to play cribbage, and bowled at Rossmere Lanes and Cornation Lanes twice a week until she was ninety-one years of age. Always active, Sarah continued her travels throughout Canada, the United States and to the old country well into her eighties, and took Lions Manor day trips well into her nineties. Sarah thoroughly enjoyed the time she spent with her family at the many family gatherings throughout the years, including the special birthday celebrations held for her with family, friends, and the staff of Lions Manor.
