GERTRUDE MARGARET SANDS (nee BROWN) Margaret Sands passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital on January 27, 2001. She was born in Vancouver on April 30, 1909. She grew up in Winnipeg, attending schools in the West End and East Kildonan. She married Raymond Wharton Sands in 1939 and resided in Norwood until his retirement, then moved to their apartment in St. Vital. Margaret was predeceased by her mother Gertrude Pauline Forrest in 1919; her father Edward Blake Brown in 1937; her husband Ray in 1985; her oldest brother Edward in 1973; and three sisters, Jennet Semple in 1979, Edith Waluk in 1983 and Frances in 1995. She is survived by two brothers, Bert (Hilda) of Prince Albert, SK. and Neil of Richmond, B.C. and thirteen nieces and nephews and their families. Aunt Maggie was the life of the party at family events. Her infectious laugh would raise the spirits of everyone around her. She loved sports, particularly baseball when she was young and lawn bowling as an adult. She was a longtime member of The Norwood Lawn Bowling Club and, as with her brother Ted, a frequent recipient at the trophy presentations. Margaret was a very strong and independent person who, in spite of being legally blind and increasingly unsteady on her feet, insisted on staying in her apartment until entering hospital a few weeks ago. The family wishes to thank the Staff on 6E at St. Boniface Hospital for their care and kindness, and Dr. A. Katz and his associates for their sensitive and competent care of Aunt Maggie over the years. A memorial service will be held in Thomson Funeral Chapels on February 2, at 2:30 p.m with The Reverend Gordon Shields officiating. Flowers gratefully declined. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783 - 7211
