JESSIE ANNETTE (DANGERFIELD) TURPIN Jessie Turpin, a former Winnipegger, died suddenly but peacefully in Phoenix, Arizona on January 15, 2001, a few months shy of her 77th birthday. Jessie was born in Winnipeg on March 9, 1924, the youngest daughter of the late Fred and Elizabeth Dangerfield. Predeceased by her three brothers, George, Jack and Jim, and her sister Eyleen Rankin, she is survived by five children, Georgia, Cheryl, Lynette, and Richard, all of California, and Laura of Phoenix; several grandchildren, some great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews, mainly in Winnipeg. Everyone who knew her will miss her warmth, self-deprecating humour, pleasant company, rich laugh, easy companionship, enormously caring nature - and fabulous, not-heart-healthy peanut brittle! Her inner strength will also be missed. Jessie moved to California in the 1950s and to Phoenix in the 1970s. The chorus of Albert Hammonds well-known song goes: "It never rains in Southern California...it pours, man it pours". Jessie had more of her share of inclement weather as a wife and single mother. Lesser individuals would have crumbled under the weight of the disproportionate number of slings and arrows she encountered. She deserved better in life, but life never got the better of her because she believed in it. She remained steadfastly hopeful and resolutely positive that rainbows would be hers. Her sunny disposition kept the storms in check, if not quite at bay. She was a survivor, not of the superficial television variety, but in the true, traditional sense of the word. That trait of strength she gave to her children in spades, a wonderful legacy. A memorial service was held for Jessie on Saturday, January 27 in Phoenix. Contributions in Jessies memory may be made to the Camelback Bible Church, 3900 E. Stanford Dr., Paradise Valley, Arizona, 85253, or her former church, Point Loma Community Presbyterian, 2128 Chatsworth Blvd., San Diego, CA, 92107.
