Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDR. ATEF NASSAR It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend. Dr. Atef Nassar passed away peacefully on January 31, 2001, at St. Boniface Hospital. Atef lived life to the fullest, sharing his knowledge, compassion and strength with those around him. His children, Nicola (David), Adam, Mark, Nadine and Tara were his legacy to life, and he will be greatly missed by them. Atef will also be forever missed by his wife Melba; sister Enayat and grandchildren, Jenna, Ryan and Laura. Atef was born in Cairo, Egypt in 1934 to Judge Abdul Kader and Zeinab. At the age of four he learned the violin, and two years later played for King Farouk who presented Atef with the Golden Medal. He carried his love of music with him throughout his whole life. Atef attended Ains Champs University (Egypt) where he qualified as a medical doctor. He continued his education in England and Scotland, studying thoracic and orthopedic surgery. He immigrated to Canada in 1968 and began a successful medical career at Deer Lodge Hospital. He retired from Misericordia Hospital and Seven Oaks Hospital, where he was Chief of Orthopedic Surgery. Throughout his career Dr. Nassar was known for his compassion and dedication, especially to the elderly. Atef enjoyed his retirement years with his family. He loved travelling and lecturing in other countries. He conquered the computer and was an avid fan at his sons hockey games. Our family has lost a mentor and a hero...his friends have lost a generous and kind spirited man. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Islamic Centre or the Cancer Society.
