ROBERT JOHN STEWART With sadness we announce the passing of John Stewart on January 31, 2001 at the Grace Hospital. John was 78 years of age. John leaves to mourn his wife Margaret; daughter Shelley (Leonard) McKnight, their family, Ashley, Victoria and Reid McKnight; son Kelvin (Joanne) Stewart and Joannes family, Jeff and Aynslie Oshoeway; daughter Dawne (Allan) Grenkow, their family, Meghan and Lloyd Grenkow; daughter Pam Stewart. John is also survived by his brother Charlie (June) Stewart, nephews, Bob (Marilyn) Stewart, Bruce Stewart and niece Heather (Gerry) Martin, and their families; as well as nephews, Bob (Janice) Stone and Jim (Judy) Stone. John was predeceased by his father Robert A. Stewart (1947), his mother Jean Stewart (1975), his sister Jean (Babs) Stone (1954) and brother-in-law Elmer Stone (1984), his sister Dorothy and brother-in-law Lloyd Price (1956). He was born May 24, 1922 and lived his entire life in Lilyfield District. He married Margaret Price of Warren, Man., November 16, 1955. Throughout his life John displayed a deep commitment to his family and his community. He enjoyed his children and grandchildrens many activities, 4-H, curling, baseball tournaments, hockey games, dancing and music. He was an avid curler in his younger years. In addition to farming, he served as Councillor of Ward IV in Rosser Municipality from 1971 to 1974 and from 1980 to 1992, serving on various committees and boards. He served as a trustee of Phipps School and was a steward at Lilyfield United Church. He enjoyed conversing with people and he remembered everyone he had ever met. A favourite topic was local history. John continued to take pleasure in "supervising" the farming and business efforts of his children. Viewing will take place at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall, on Friday, February 2 at 7:00 p.m. A celebration of Johns life will be held in the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall, on Saturday, February 3 at 2:00 p.m. Deborah Vitt will officiate. Interment will follow in the Lilyfield Cemetery. Pallbearers are Doug Langrell, Dennis Langrell, Allan Grenkow, Meghan Grenkow, Lloyd Grenkow, Leonard McKnight, Reid McKnight and Christopher Stewart. The family would like to thank the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at Grace Hospital for their wonderful care. If desired, donations may be made in Dads name to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, R3C 2B7, or to the Lilyfield United Church Memorial Fund in care of Box 22, RR 2, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2E6.
