RONALD (RON) J.F. PAY 1932 - 2001 It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Peacefully, on January 30, 2001, after a brief battle with cancer, Ron passed away at Johnson memorial Hospital in Gimli. Ron is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Irene; three sons, Greg (Linda) of Winnipegosis, Mitch (Judy) of Selkirk, and Brent (Donna) of Baltimore, Maryland; two sisters, Moraine (Harold Morrison) of Surrey, B.C. and Karen (Marshall Freed) of Winnipeg; seven grandchildren, Erick, Kurt, Kristen, Curtis, Meghan, Logan and Sawyer as well as one great-grandson, Justin. Ron was born in Winnipeg on September 29, 1932, the first child of Knute (Ben) and Mary Pay of Norwood. The first eleven years of his life were spent in Norway House where his father was the Hudsons Bay factor; subsequently, the family moved to Norwood where Ron went to school and met Irene Deman in 1947. They married on January 1, 1952 and raised their three sons on Blackberry Bay in Windsor Park. Ron joined the Winnipeg Police Force as a raw recruit in 1953 and proceeded to serve as a loyal, dedicated police officer for thirty years, retiring as a patrol sergeant, Traffic Division in 1983. Retired at age 51, Ron and Irene began to spend their winters in Phoenix in 1985 and also relocated their Manitoba residence to Gimli in 1993. An outgoing, popular man, Ron was well known and renowned for his quick wit, sharp mind and his "one-liners". Over the years on the police force, and at his homes in Winnipeg, Phoenix and Gimli, Ron proved to be lively company, a loyal friend, a "straight-shooter" and an honest family man. Our special thanks to Doctor Zeth Wiesenthal and the exceptional staff at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Gimli for making our husband and father comfortable in his final time with us. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service for Ron will be held at the Norwood United Church, Tache Ave. and St. Marys Rd. on Saturday, February 10, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that our friends, in honour of our fathers memory, give their own families all of the love that they possibly can and please value every moment of it. Rons favourite quote: "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements. 775-2220.
