MARY ELIZABETH McELWEE (nee HARRISON) Passed away peace-fully on Thursday, February 1, 2001, eight days short of her 99th birthday, at the Maples Personal care Home, with Reverend Bob English, son James, Jean and Julie at her side. Mom was born in Limavady, County Derry, N. Ireland on February 9, 1902. She married Alexander McElwee November 13, 1922. Mary was predeceased by her husband Alexander on June 1, 1972; daughters, Lillian passed away in August 1983, Josephine, September 1983 and son Alex November 1995; also infant grandson Kelly; her parents, James and Elizabeth Harrison; sisters, Jenny Martin and Annie Harrison; brothers, William, George and James and sons-in-law, Harry Saunders and Emil Drefs. Mary is survived by one son James and wife Jean; daughter-in-law Julie; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy in Limavady from N. Ireland, Gladys of Australia, Leslie of London, England; cousin Lettie in Scotland; special niece Lizzie Martin in Ireland and many nieces and nephews overseas. She was a long time life member of St. Barnabas Church and a Granny to all the neighbors kids on Shaughnessy Street. The greatest mom in the world is at rest and with her "angels." A special thanks to her granddaughter Leanne who visited faithfully every week and decorated her room to cheer her up and had many meals with her. Viewing will be held from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., Sunday, February 4, at Bardal Funeral Chapel. Funeral service 3:00 p.m. on Monday, February 5, at St. Barnabas Church, 730 McPhillips Street, with Reverend R.W. English officiating. Cremation to follow the service and a private interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Should friends so desire donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. "May the roads rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; The rain fall soft upon your fields. And, until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand." A Gaelic Blessing.
