DAVID HELWER With sadness we announce the passing of David Helwer on February 1, 2001 at his residence in Selkirk. Born on March 26, 1928 in Winnipeg, David leaves to mourn sister-in-law Rose of Selkirk and numerous nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Johann and Katherine; brothers, Fred, Robert and Alex; sister-in-law Elsie and nephew Harvey Helwer. David spent his teenage years on the family farm in Libau but returned to Winnipeg in 1945, with his family. Shortly thereafter he began employment with Building Products where he continued for the next 44 years, retiring due to poor health. Chief, as he was affectionately called by his family, enjoyed the companionship of his brother Alex, the Sunday dinners prepared by Rose and the company of his nieces and nephews at many Helwer family gatherings. Uncle Chief will be missed but remembered fondly for his passion for playing cards and his quick and easy smile. Pallbearers will be his nephews, Ron, Irwin, Dennis, Donald and Brad Helwer and Clare McKenty. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 5 at 11:00 a.m. in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Selkirk.
