Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANTONINA YAKYMIW 1903 - 2001 Passed away peacefully at the age of 97, Thursday, February 1, 2001, at the Misericordia Interim Care Facility. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Mary and son-in-law Alex Vajcner; grandchildren, Glen, Chris, Tracy and husband Martin Robinson, Andrea and husband Clayton Pollock and her two precious great-granddaughters, Rachel and Rebecca Robinson. She was predeceased by her daughter Olga in 1980 and her husband Harry in 1986. Antonina was born September 3, 1903 in Birke Veleki, Povit Ternopol, Poland and came to Canada in 1928. In 1931 she married Harry Yakymiw and they raised their two daughters in the North End of Winnipeg. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. She looked forward to their visits, and enjoyed watching them grow up. No words can describe the joy her great-granddaughters brought her. Babka was an incredible cook -- there was always a welcoming aroma in her house from the doughnuts and cinnamon buns, pickles and perogies. The highlight of the year was gathering at Babkas house on Christmas Eve to celebrate with the traditional dishes of her homeland. We all admired Babka for her strength and independence. She lived in her two-storey house until August, 2000. Mass of Resurrection will be held Monday, February 5 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Bernadette Parish, 820 Cottonwood Rd., with Fr. Fred Olds officiating. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery. Viewing will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the church. Special thanks to Dr. A.W. Alvi, the staff at Misericordia, Cornish 5 for their excellent care of Babka, and our friends and family for their love and support. REST IN PEACE BABKA VICHNAYA PAMYAT CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL in care of arrangements, 586-8044.
