MARTHA BELL Martha Bell passed away at Virden District Hospital on Sunday, January 28, 2001. She was born on January 26, 1901 in Balgonie, SK, to Johann and Ludwika Lanz, who farmed in the Avonhurst, SK area for many years. In 1921 she married Allen F. Bell and they resided in Saskatoon until 1926 when they were transferred with the CNR to Winnipeg, MB. After her husband died, Martha decided to babysit. She still kept in touch with some of the more than 100 children that she had cared for. In 1986 she moved to Virden to be near her daughter. Martha was predeceased by her parents and husband; her sisters, Emma, Eva, Erna, Lydia, Elsie, Louise, Violet and Atholine; and by her brothers, Frank, Emil, John and Ralph. She will be sadly missed by her son Clifton (Eve) Bell of Ottawa and her daughter Velma (Paul) Stewart of Virden; her grandsons, Craig Stewart and Gordon (Juliet) Stewart, Allen A. (Laurel) Bell; granddaughter Sandi (Doug) Hengel; great-grandchildren, Dustin and Chase Anderson, Clifton Bell and Amanda Bell, Casey Stewart, Cassandra, Dexter and Katy-Bell Stewart. She also leaves to mourn her brother Rheinhold and sister Geraldine Lanz of Regina; and many nieces and nephews. Marthas hobbies were gardening, bird watching and needlework, for which she won many prizes at fairs and exhibitions. She was also a volunteer at the Red Cross Lodge in Winnipeg for many years. Martha was a member of St. Pauls United Church in Virden. Interment has taken place in Regina Memorial Gardens, Regina, SK. A memorial service will be held at a later date. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to St. Pauls United Church Memorial Fund (Virden), or to the charity of your choice in Marthas memory. G.R. Carscadden Funeral Chapel, Virden, in care of the arrangements. You were a collection of all of your years, Your stories, your glories, your troubles and tears. Tales of a century lived in your eyes. You were a hundred years wise. You were a connection to far away places, That lived on in thoughts of good times and dear faces. Your history shined in you, filled you with light, You were a hundred years bright.
