TERRY (TEENIE) BACKLUND A heart of gold stopped beating, Hard working hands went to rest, God took you home to prove to us, He only takes the best. With much sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Terry Backlund, on Friday, February 2, 2001 at Health Sciences Centre, after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 68 years. Mom was predeceased by her loving husband Raymond in 1987; her parents, mother-in-law and father-in-law. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her children, Pamela (Joel), Mike (Lynne) her brother Nick (Pat) aunt Anne Karpinsky; her cousin Eugene Glisky and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Mom was born in St. Clements, East Selkirk, Man., on November 30, 1932 and married Raymond in 1951. Throughout her life she had many career paths; switchboard operator for Childrens Aid and Childrens Hospital, office clerk for Manta Tent and Awning, B & B Moving and finally National Pagette/TAS/Shaw, where she worked for over 20 years as a phone operator and was a member of IBEW. On her retirement in 1997, she took up aquatic aerobics at Sargent Park Pool. She also bowled at Polo Park Lanes with the Kent Imps Ladies Bowling League in 1998 and 1999 until she took ill. She also loved reading, crossword puzzles, spending summers at her cabin in Hillside Beach with her family and Orien (her sons dog) and her cat Meize. Anyone who met her liked her because of her kindness and compassion for others. She always put everyone before herself and never wanted to be a burden. She was quick to help others, but slow to ask for help for herself. She was a strong willed woman and will be missed as she was taken much too soon. The family wishes to thank Dr. Houston and his nursing staff, Karla, Maria and Ester at CancerCare MB for their patience and understanding in our difficult and trying times. We also want to thank Dr. Griggs for his care over the years. We also wish to thank the nurses and aides, especially Lino and Brenda for their wonderful care on GD4 at HSC that our mother received in the last three weeks. Prayers will be held on Tuesday, February 6 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, February 7 at 1:00 p.m., also at the Chapel. Interment will follow at the Brookside Cemetery. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL in care of arrangements - 586-8044.
