Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN GORDON SHEWCHUK Peacefully, on February 3, 2001, John Shewchuk, age 85 years, passed away at Red River Place in Selkirk, Man. John will be remembered and missed by his son Mel (Eileen) and grandchildren, Kristyn and Mark of Lockport; daughter-in-law Sharon of Ste. Anne, Man., and grandchildren, Cherylyn and Kevin and great-grandchild Ryan of Edmonton. John was predeceased by his wife Katherine in 1987 and son Ken in 1999. Dad was born in 1915 in Gilbert Plains, Man., along with his brothers, Frank, Joe, Archie, Jim and Alfred and his sister Helen, all who have predeceased him. Johns career began as a diamond driller in Red Lake, Ont., prior to moving to Winnipeg where he and Katherine owned and operated Kens Solo Store in West Kildonan until 1968 when they semi-retired to Lockport. Dad was a gentle and quiet man who enjoyed nature and gardening. He often reminisced about his childhood on the farm and the good old days. He will always be remembered for his words of wisdom and his dedication and belief in his family. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 6 at 10:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk with Fr. Harry Oliynek officiating. Interment to follow in the Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Selkirk. Appreciation is extend to the homecare workers who enabled John to remain at home as long as possible and to the staff of Red River Place who so caringly attended to him. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donation may be made in Johns memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8. Happy Gardening Dad.
