JOHN G. (JACK) WHITESIDE Peacefully after a lengthy illness on Monday, February 5, 2001, Jack Whiteside passed away at the Victoria General Hospital. Jack will be lovingly remembered by his beloved companion Viola; daughter Patricia (George) Zachanowich; grandson Mark (Vicki) Zachanowich; great-grandsons Nicholas and Eric Zachanowich; granddaughter Susan Bilton of Toronto; son Bill (Paula) grandsons Dirk, Kent and Wesley. Jack will also be remembered by his sister-in-laws Mabel and Agnes Whiteside and his nieces and nephews in England. He was predeceased by his parents William and Sarah, brothers Tom, Frank, and sister Mary and her husband Jim. Jack was born December 23, 1917 in Blackpool, England. Jack immigrated to Canada in 1954 after serving in the Second World War and on the Preston Borough Police Force in Preston, England. He worked for various departments of the City of Winnipeg and later with the Provincial Government at the Liquor Control Commissions as a Liquor Inspector from 1957 until his retirement in 1976. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 8 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Ignatius of Loyola Church, 255 Stafford St., with Rev. Fr. Joseph Johnson sj officiating. Cremation to follow. Interment will be held at a later date in Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley St. The family would like to thank Dr. Vincent Taraska, Dr. J.E. Walli and all his doctors and nurses at the Winnipeg Clinic. Also the nurses and staff on the 3rd floor at Victoria General Hospital for their exceptional care and kindness. At Jacks request, in lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to a charity of ones choice.
