DR. RAJ SABERWAL MBChB, MRCOG Peacefully, with his wife and children at his side, Raj passed away with dignity at the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit on Sunday, February 4, 2001 after a three year battle with cancer ("The Dreaded Disease", as he called it). He never complained about himself, since he was always so concerned about everyone else. He leaves his loving wife of 34 years, Pat and children, Dev, Meena (Shawn) and Anita. He was very proud of all of them and most of all his little grandson Bryce whom he adored. Bryce adored his Papa very much. Raj was born on November 26, 1940 in Tororo, Uganda. He was predeceased by his mother, father, brother, and two sisters. He has one surviving sister, Pushpa in New Delhi, India. Raj graduated Grade 12 at Mbale boarding school in Uganda and from the University of Glasgow Medical School in Scotland in 1967. He obtained his specialty qualifications in Obstetrics and Gynecology in London, England in 1972. In 1974, he moved to Arborg, Man. when his two children, Dev and Meena were aged six and two. In 1976, he delivered his third child, Anita. In Arborg, he did family practice and Obstetrics and Gynecology, which he loved to do. In 1997, he was diagnosed with "The Dreaded Disease", which he dealt with courageously. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 8 at 3:00 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley St. Our thanks go to the staff of the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit, especially Dr. Daeninck and nurses Rachael and Catherine. Thanks also to Dr. Cook, Dr. Chowdhury and Dr. Navaratnam. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2B7. Gone From My Sight I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other. Then, someone at my side says; "There, she is gone!" "Gone where?" Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and she is just as able to bear her living freight to her destined port. Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says; "There, she is gone!" There are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout; "Here she comes!" And that is dying. Your gentle face and pleasant smile With sadness we recall. You had a kindly word for each and died beloved by all. The voice is mute and stilled the heart that loved us well and true Ah, bitter was the trial to part from one so good as you. You are not forgotten loved one, nor will you ever be. As long as life and memory last, we will remember thee. We miss you now, our hearts are sore, as time goes by we miss you more. Your loving smile, your gentle face, No one can fill your vacant place. LEATHERDALE GARDINER 1501 Waverley Street 949-4860
