MAURICE SMITH It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our father, uncle, grand-father and great-grandfather after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Monday, February 5, 2001, at the age of 94 years. Maurice was pre-deceased by his first wife Nancy; his second wife Muriel Grace; daughters, Peggy and Jean and sisters, Betty and Florence and grandson Brian. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by sons, Ken and Edwin; daughters, Phyllis (George) of B.C., Marie (Jim) of Cooks Creek, Lorraine (Ken) of Winnipeg; and his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his dear friends, Kay U. and John B. Maurice was born April 2, 1906 in Peguis, MB. He grew up in Peguis where he learned hunting and fishing from his grandfather Gilbert Smith. He met and married Nancy and after her premature death he served as a MP in the Armed Forces. Several years later he met Muriel who became his wife of 32 years. In 1975 they moved to Winnipeg but kept close ties with family and friends in Peguis. He was very knowledgeable, loved to dance and told great stories that spanned his 94 years. He loved his family immensely and was respected by many friends. We all will miss you. Our deep appreciation to Drs. Scurrah, Spanihel, Orgarenko. Special thanks to George of Homecare and Melanie of the VON. Our heartfelt thanks for the extremely excellent care that our Dad received by the staff of Riverview and to a special nurse "Helen" who made every effort to comfort him. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Friday, February 9, at 1:30 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley Street. A private family Interment will take place at Garry Memorial Park, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maurices memory to the Cancercare Manitoba Foundation, 100 Oliva Street, Winnipeg, MB R3E OV9, or to a charity of ones choice. DAD I see my fathers reflection lies In everyone of his childrens eyes The absolute best a Dad could be Now his soul has been set free To be again with our Mom Where two again will be as one We know this pain and this sorrow Will last long past all tomorrow When tears dry up and pain subsides Always I will look back with pride To my friend, confidant, teacher, father Or just plain "Dad", to his sons and daughter PATAMA KETOM UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN LEATHERDALE GARDINER 1501 Waverley Street, 949-4860
