MONA HILTON Sarah Esther Mona Keddie was born in Douglas, Isle of Man on April 16, 1903. She had one sister and nine brothers. In 1904, the family moved to Cumberland House, SK. She received her education at Cumberland House, Montreal and The Pas. On May 8, 1922, Mona married William John Hilton at Christ Church, The Pas. They had three sons, Norman, Bert and Donald. During the Second World War, she was an active volunteer in many capacities. She took her St. Johns Ambulance course in The Pas; did volunteer blood work for the Red Cross, and worked in St. Anthonys Hospital as a nurses aid. When she and her husband moved to Dauphin, she was a C.G.I.T. leader for a number of years. When Bill retired, they moved to Victoria, BC where she was a volunteer worker at The Gorge Rehabilitation Centre. She was also the first woman to be elected an Elder at Fairfield United Church. Mona was widowed in 1968, but did not come to Winnipeg until 1983. She passed away at Oakview Place on February 5, 2001. She was predeceased by her son Norman in 1924 and by her husband in 1968. She was the last remaining member of her generation of the family. She is lovingly remembered by her sons, Bert (Leta) and Don (Shirley), five grandchildren, Bill (Sheila), Craig (Elizabeth), and Kevin (Theresa), Catherine and John and five great-grandchildren. A service celebrating her life will be held at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church, 525 Wardlaw Ave. on Wednesday, February 14 at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Pat Wotton officiating. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations may be made to the Memorial Garden of Crescent Fort Rouge United Church. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
