KENNETH LORNE (TUCKER) PETERSON It is with great sorrow that our family announces the peaceful passing of the man we loved and cherished, on February 10, 2001 at the Selkirk General Hospital, at the age of 67 years. He is survived by his loving wife Gladys; his children, Kenny Jr. (Susan), Kimmy, Kerri-Dawn (Derrick), and Bobby-Joe (Corrie) six grandchildren, Dana (Digger), Nathon, Samantha, McKenna-Jae, Keaton and Jordon; as well as two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Sarah; and his two dogs, Miko and Mulligan. Ken was predeceased by his father and mother, Johann and Kristbjorg; and brothers, Joey and Dennis. He is survived by one brother Laurie; four sisters, Thora, Olive, Margret (Ken), and Tootsie; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ken was born on September 29, 1933 and was raised in Selkirk where he made his permanent home. Through his early years of growing up, it was evident that Dad was a gifted athelete. He loved to play sports, and he was truly dedicated to excellence. He played on numerous teams which included the Selkirk Jr. Bs, the Selkirk Fisherman, winning two consecutive championships with Ken as the top scorer and being names player of the game many times. He also played with the Flin Flon Bombers where he shone as well. Being one of the youngest players there, he quickly earned his way to the starting line and was influential in the 1951-52 Junior Hockey Championship. Dad has been quoted as a brilliant player, gifted and unstoppable in a number of sports. One of Dads greatest accomplishments was when he was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings at the age of 15. He excelled in many other sports such as darts, cribbage and baseball, but soon golf became one of his passions. In Dads lifetime he was fortunate enough to receive two holes-in-one. Ken had zest for life, a great sense of humour, but most of all he loved his family, and they came first. Ken was employed by Manitoba Hydro for 25 years, and he did not miss one of those days. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 14 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, with interment to take place at a later date. Dad has also left a host of good friends who may consider themselves honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Kens memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8; or the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 329 Clandeboye Ave., Selkirk, MB R1A 0X4. WE LOVE AND MISS YOU DAD Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
