HERBERT THEODOR PENNER November 2, 1943 - February 10, 2001 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Herb Penner at Hunter Memorial Hospital in Teulon, Manitoba. Herb fought a long and courageous battle and peacefully left us on February 10, 2001. Left to mourn Herb are his wife Lois (nee Linklater) daughter Jodi; brothers George (Mary), Erwin (Anna), John; sisters Katie, Ellie (Richard Tews), Irma (Ray Isbister) sister-in-laws Mary Penner and Jane Penner, in-laws Les and Gloria Linklater, Keith Linklater, Darlene and George Fedoruk, Donna and Ray Cherniak and Ian Linklater. Herb also will be greatly missed by his numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many, many friends. Herb was predeceased by his son Matthew, father Heinrich, mother Katharina (nee Kroeker), father-in-law Thomas Linklater, mother-in-law Blanche Linklater; brothers Nick Penner and Hank Penner and sisters-in-law Marlene Penner and Victoria Linklater as well as his very dear friend Brian Florence. Herb was raised on a farm near Teulon, Manitoba and there he learned the importance of close family ties and strong lifelong friendships. His first love was farming and he shared this love with his two brothers Hank and John, who he farmed with. Herb married the love of his life, Lois in 1969 and his greatest joy was when his daughter Jodi was born in 1975. Herbie loved to cook and he would always be inviting people over for pizza parties, backyard BBQs and when it came to breakfasts, his niece Erin as well as many friends would be treated to Roll Kuchen, his specialty. Whether it was telling jokes and stories, organizing fishing trips to the cabin or just sitting around the kitchen table playing the guitar, you always knew how important Herbies friends and family were to him. Herbies "Heaven on Earth" was his cabin Matawa Lodge. Herb cherished his hunting and fishing trips and there was always a story that came out of them. It was on these trips that he formed lifelong friendships. Herb was so grateful for the support of his family, friends and neighbors during his illness. Whether it was driving him to appointments, running errands or just spending time with him, he felt blessed by their kindness. We thank God for his life, what he gave us, what he taught us and what he left us. Though his life was shorter than we all would have liked, he lived and loved more in his 57 years than most people do in a lifetime. You can not leave a greater legacy than that. A Prayers service will be on Wednesday, February 14 at 7:00 p.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel in Teulon. There will be a celebration of Herbies life on Thursday, February 15 at 2:00 p.m. at the Teulon Rockwood Centennial Hall in Teulon, Manitoba. Rev. Barb Janes will officiate with interment to follow at Windsor Cemetery. Pallbearers are Barry Sadlowski, Ray Cherniak, Art Penny, Gordie Penny, Henry Penner and Wayne Dziadek. Honorary Pallbearers are Dianne Florence, Glen Carter, Gilbert Good, Alvin Penner, John Penner, Victor Bidinosti, Murray McConnell, Victor Dola, Roger Bouvier and Dennis Helwer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba. Friendship "Theres a miracle called Friendship, that dwells within the heart, And you dont know how it happens, or where it gets its start. But the happiness it brings you always gives a special lift, And you realize that a Friendship is Gods most precious gift." We will always love you, and you will always be with us...Aufwiedersehn. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Teulon in care of arrangements.
