PETER Z. UNRAU 1920 - 2001 Peter Z. Unrau went on to his final reward at the age of 80 years, after a steady decline in his health, February 10, 2001 at the Morden Hospital. Peter was born on the family farm in Rosenfeld, MB to Jacob and Anna Unrau. Though he wished to follow in his fathers steps as a farmer, it was not to be. Peter served Canada during the Second World War at a Conscientious Objectors camp in Banff, AB, honouring both his country and his religious beliefs. In May of 1943, Peter married his childhood sweetheart, Margaretha Gerbrandt, and they shared their lives for more than 55 years. Peter had a wanderlust that led his family from east to west, finally settling back in his home province after years of travel. At one time Peter worked for Manitoba Hydro, operated a restaurant with Marge and the children, and finally worked as a driver for the Morden Hospital before retiring. Throughout his life Peter continued to have a love of the land and did seasonal work for local farmers right up until the late 1990s. In his later years, Peter served his friends and community in the Morden Friendship Centre. Peter was predeceased by his loving wife, Marge, in January of 1998 and leaves behind four children, their spouses and 14 grandchildren. John and Georgina Unrau of Morden, Rick and Dee Unrau of Legal, AB, Chris and Larry McMurray of Winnipeg, Gerald and Traci Unrau of Morden. Peter is survived by one sister Mary (George) Gerbrandt of Winnipeg and two brothers, Jake (Lily) Unrau of Selkirk, and Dave (Annette) Unrau of Stonewall. Viewing will be Wednesday 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wiebe Funeral Chapel, Morden (1050 Thornhill St.) and at the chapel prior to the service.
