NORMAN MITCHELL It is with great sadness that the family of Norman Leonard Mitchell announces his passing on Monday, February 12, 2001. Norm was a very special man to his loving wife Shirley and his children and grandchildren who will miss him greatly. Norm was born October 21, 1928 in Winnipeg. He spent all of his life in St. Vital where he and Shirley went to school together, married and raised their 3 children. His family was always the most important thing in his life. Most of all Norm treasured family gatherings. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren who will always be inspired by his warmth, integrity and love. Norm was a kind, generous, caring man with a warm smile and tender heart. Norm was respected by his colleagues in his early years at MTS and his later years with GTE Sylvania. He enjoyed luncheons with fellow electrical retirees at the Viscount Gort, also Tuesday meetings with Probus and Thursday morning breakfasts at Smittys with longtime St.Vital friends. Norm and Shirley treasured the years they spent travelling in their motor home and summers at the cottage at Louise Lake. Norm was predeceased by his parents Lewis and Norah Mitchell. Left to cherish his loving memory are his wife Shirley; daughter Maureen (Gavin) sons Bruce (Lori) and Chris (Marla) brother Don (Dorothy) Mitchell; sister-in-law Joan Spence; brothers-in-law Ray Spence and Rick Van Hull; many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Poppa, you will always be in our hearts and memories - we will miss you - Garrett, Matthew and Trent Houston, Kirk and Connor Mitchell, and Jordan and Hailey Mitchell. The family wishes to send thanks and appreciation to the staff and doctors at Victoria General Hospital and to the wonderful nurses of the Riverview Health Center 3E ward that showed Norm such loving care in his last month. Flowers are gratefully declined and if friends desire, donations can be made in Norms memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 2B7. Friends may call for visitation on Wednesday, February 14th between 7:00 PM and 9:00 p.m. at the Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. There will be a funeral service on Thursday, February 15th at 10:30 A.M. also in the Thomson Funeral Chapels. Thanks for the years you gave us, For all the dreams we shared, We only pray when you left us, That you knew how much we cared, Forever loved, forever dear. With our hearts, forever near.
