Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARTHUR EDWARD (TED) DENNIS Peacefully, with family by his side, Ted passed away January 28, 2001 at Neepawa Memorial Hospital following a long and courageous fight. Ted was born in Neepawa on December 1, 1936, the third child of four to Ben and Nora Dennis. He attended school in Brookdale. On June 7, 1958 he married Joyce Violet Russell. Together they raised four children and worked the family farm. He was dedicated to conservation through zero-till farming and his participation in Farming For Tomorrow. He believed it was his responsibility to put back what he took out, to leave the land as productive as he came to it. He forged many strong and long standing working relationships with his neighbours. His passion off the farm was hockey. He played in Brookdale as a young lad. He was drafted for the Neepawa Natives at age 15. He moved to the Inter-Ridge Hockey league, followed by the commercial league. His final team was the 39ers where the camaraderie was the highlight of the game. Another aspect of the game Ted enjoyed was his years of coaching. There he got the opportunity to observe and influence the boys who would become the men of his community. Ted enjoyed playing baseball in his youth. He shared a love of fishing with his sons. Ted played guitar and with daughters on piano the family shared many sing-a-long nights. In the company of his friends he accomplished a lifelong goal to see Alaska. It was a cherished memory he often revisited. Ted is survived by Joyce, his best friend and loving wife of nearly 43 years; children, Linda of Burnaby, Andrew (Sharran) of Brookdale, Sandra (Ben) of Victoria, and Eugene (Karen) of Surrey. He had seven grandchildren he loved and enjoyed very much: Liana and Trevor Regehr, Riordan and Ryerson Dennis, Laura, Aaron and Nathan How. He is also survived by siblings, Jean (Max) Orr, George (Ethel) Dennis and Beryl (Lloyd) Henders, as well as many nieces and nephews. After a private family interment at Brookdale Cemetery, a celebration of his life was held Thursday, February 1 at Brookdale Community Hall with Rev. Joseph Ball officiating. A prelude of Irish music was played on piano by sisters, Jean Orr and Beryl Henders and organ music during the service by cousin Kathleen Swanson. Active Urn bearer was eleven year old grandson Riordan Dennis. Honorary pallbearers were Bob and Deanna Sumner, Ray and Lyle Byram, Charlie and Kathleen Swanson, Harold and Doreen McLeod, Bill and Rose Jones. Arrangements in care of Whites Funeral Home, Neepawa. Friends who so desire may make donations to CancerCare Manitoba or Manitoba Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation. My Grandpa I love my Grandpa very much And so does everyone here today, For Grandpa was a good man, Though now still he lay. Grandpa helped everyone, You and me and everyone that I see. A Grandpa, A Father, a Son, He is so great no matter which one. My Grandpa is special to me and my brothers Hes special to Dad and to my Mother. Remember that though his death is the hardest part, There still is a way to find him... Just look in your heart. Written with love by granddaughter Laura Danielle How (age 9)
