SOPHIE STECYK On Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at the Concordia Hospital, Sophie Stecyk, aged 86 years, of Selkirk. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, son Nick (Lorlene) Stecyk of Edmonton, AB, and daughter Pauline (Joe) Evertoski of Winnipeg. Sophie also leaves ten grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, John and Tony (Nettie) Kosteniuk; and one sister Eleanor (Garry) Bediuk. She was predeceased by her husband Fred (1972) parents, Nick (1961) and Mary (1980) Kosteniuk; brother Peter (1985) sisters-in-law, Olga (1997) and Annie (1958) daughter-in-law Beatrice (1980) and brother-in-law Peter Hoydalo (1968). Sophie was born in the R.M. of St. Clements on February 10, 1914. They farmed in Walkleyburg, then moved to Selkirk in 1969. She later moved to the Lions Centre, then due to her illness moved to the Betel Home where she had been a resident for the past year. Prayers will be said on Friday, February 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 17 at 10:00 a.m. in the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, East Selkirk, with Fr. Harry Oliynek officiating. Interment to follow in the East Selkirk Cemetery. Her pallbearers will be Randy Evertoski, Richard Stecyk, Russell Hoydalo, Garry Bediuk, Terry Brott and Kenneth Waytiuk. Our family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff at the Betel Home and the wonderful nursing staff at the Concordia Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the charity of choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
