Date of Passing: Feb 14, 2001
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryR. GERALD WILSON Peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer, Gerry Wilson passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2001 at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 74. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 53 years, June; daughters, Alanna (Ed), Maureen (Aaron) and grandchildren, Tiffany, Jared and Christal, as well as his brothers Harris (Dorothy), William (Luanne), sister Bernice, sisters-in-law, Helen, Christine and Iris and brother-in-law John and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Duncan, Harold, James and Clayton, and sisters, Fern and Pearl. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Gerry served with the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve during the Second World War. Following his return Gerry pursued various careers. They included the CNR, Wilson Brothers Cartage, I.A.T.S.E. and while owning and operating Fort Garry Transfer, he worked for the CBC for 37 years until retiring in the fall of 1992. His retirement provided June and him the opportunity to travel throughout the U.S.A. and Europe and also allowed him to pursue his hobby of restoring his Classic Car, a 65 Dodge. Being a sports buff himself, his retirement gave him the time to support his grandchildren as they played, soccer, badminton, baseball, football, hockey, volleyball and just recently, ultimate frizbee. Gerry was a very kindhearted, gentle man with a tremendous sense of humour. His warm and friendly manner brought love and joy to all who knew him. He will be sadly missed. We would like to thank the staff of 3E at Riverview Health Centre for the care and support they provided to both Gerry and his family over the last few weeks. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, February 20 at 4:00 P.M. at Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. It broke our hearts to lose you But you did not go alone For part of us went with you The day God called you home. Our family link is broken And nothing seems the same But as God calls us one by one The chain will link again. We love you and well miss you Love your family THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
