PEARL SHEKMAR (PARANIA) On February 10, 2001, Pearl Shekmar of Edmonton, formerly of Winnipeg passed away in her own home, suddenly and peacefully at the age of 78 years. Pearl leaves to mourn her only daughter, Mary Cole (Bob) two grandsons, Adrian and Theo Cole of Edmonton; sister Anna Lawrin (Zachary) and numerous family in Ukraine. She also leaves to mourn a multitude of dear friends in Winnipeg, Edmonton, and many other places. Pearl had an active, independent life and recently traveled to Ukraine, Toronto, Cleveland and Winnipeg. Pearl managed Winnipeg Textiles for 17 years. She was very involved in several Ukrainian and Church organizations while living in Winnipeg for 50 years. Pearls passion for Ukrainian relief was well-known and her zest for life was very evident in her love of song and dance, her sense of humour, her garden and her positive outlook. Above all she loved people and her kindness touched many. Divine Liturgy Friday, February 16, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Georges Ukrainian Catholic Church, 11301 - 95 A Street, Edmonton. Memorial Divine Liturgy Saturday, February 17, at 10:00 a.m. celebrated at Christ the King Ukrainian Catholic Church, 263 Fountain Street, Winnipeg. Pearl is laid to rest at St. Michaels Cemetery in Edmonton. In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to Ukrainian Orphanages Relief Fund at Ukrainian Social Services, 235 McGregor Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2W 2W5.
