CARMELLE SIMONE CARRIERE On February 14, 2001, Carmelle Simone Carriere (nee Lachance) passed on peacefully at her home. She is survived by seven children and their spouses: Florence (Brian) Paulette, Raymond (Anne), Ronald (Janice), Dennis (Judy), Lou-Anne, Michele (Mario) two sisters and four brothers: Noella, Colette (Leo), Severe (Florence), Emile, Denis, Oscar (Paulette) 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law: Blanche, Irene, Noel (Nellie), Lawrence (Gladys) and Harvey. She was predeceased by Edmond her devoted husband of 50 years; two sisters, Marie Paule and Stella; and her parents Ella and Florent. Carmelle was born at home in Ste. Rose-du-Lac on May 24, 1925, and spent her childhood in the St. Eustache Community, In 1943 she married Edmond, a Marquette youth who had joined the Canadian Airforce. They spent the next 50 years moving, something that she enjoyed and did expertly. She also managed to log 25 years with Eatons primarily in telephone sales. In between moving and career she raised her family and instilled in them the core values of self-reliance and taking great pride in all that you do. Her main regret was that she and Ed retired in a location where not a single child resided, each one having "dropped off" at some previous address on reaching maturity. Visitation will take place between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 19 at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons Street. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 20 at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Avenue, with Fr. Samuel N. Argenziano presiding. Service to terminate at church with cremation to follow. Interment of cremated remains will take place at a later date at Assumption Cemetery. The family extends their special thanks to all the Winnipeg family and friends who helped support and nurture our mother when we could not be there ourselves. Our gratitude also goes to the Homecare workers and the staff and residents of the Kiwanis Chateau. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Boniface Hospital, Research Foundation, 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6, or to the charity of your choice.
