HERBERT WALTER KING Herbert Walter King, Born in Essex, England, February 6, 1907. Passed away at the Grace Hospital, Winnipeg, on February 17, 2001. Herb came to Canada in 1912. He had retired from Swift Canadian Co., as Manager Feed Division for Central Canada in 1972 after more than 45 years of service in Winnipeg and Toronto. During his career, he served as the National President of the Canadian Feed Manufacturers Association, Chairman of the Feed Trade Section of the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce and was honoured by colleagues in his field for his dedication and contribution to the industry he served for so many years. Herb was an active member of the Y.M.C.A since 1919, and had served as a Director of the Central Branch in Winnipeg and as Chairman of the Boys and Youth Committee. He was a member of St. Georges Anglican Church, first attending in 1912. He was the Charter Vice President (September, 1955), and a past President of the Rotary Club of St. Boniface-St. Vital, and served that organization on numerous committees. He was a long-time member of the Granite Curling Club. Herb will be remembered for his honesty, decency, and dedicated service to his work, his church and his community. He was courteous to everyone he met. His family will cherish the love and pride he had and showed for his wife, Vi and son Gordon; his deep affection for his brother, Bob and his joy in being Grandpa to Laura and Tim. Predeceased by his wife Violet Winifred King in 1995, and survived by his son Gordon Walter (Mary) of Ottawa, ON.; his brother Robert W. King (Eileen) of Winnipeg, and grand-children, Laura Elizabeth King of Montreal, PQ and Timothy Michael Walter King of Nanoose, B.C. Funeral service on Thursday, February 22, at 10:00 a.m., in St. Georges Anglican Church, Winnipeg; burial at St. Johns Cathedral Anglican Cemetery.
