Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGUDRUN (GOODY) JONINA McINNIS (nee SKULASON) Peacefully with her family by her side, Gudrun passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2001, at the age of 64. Gudrun was predeceased by her father Jonas Skulason; grandparents Adam and Sigrun Thorgrimsson, Jon and Gudrun Skulason; sister Sigrun Jonasson; nephews, Danny, John, David; aunts, Kristin (Stina) L. Skulason and Sigrun (Babe) McArthur and numerous other aunts and uncles. She is survived by her loving husband Gordon; children and grandchildren, Melvin (Sullla), Thora, Signy, their mother Svava Simundson, Inga, her mother Anna Gyda; Carol (Brian) Rocan, Danielle, Adam; Joni (Greg) Shepheard, Regan; Gwen (Neal) Noble, Kyle; Neil (Kim), Caitlin; mother Hrund Skulason; sister Kris (John) Laxdal; brothers, Herman, Thor; sisters-in-law, Lillian, Edwina and numerous nieces and nephews. Gudrun was born on June 2, 1936, in the Geysir District east of Arborg, Man. She attended the Provincial Normal School in Winnipeg. This led to her first teaching position at the Big Point School and the opportunity to meet Gordon. They married on August 6, 1955, and resided on the Valdimarson homestead in the Big Point District east of Langruth, where they farmed and their children were born. The family moved to Virden in 1966 and later to Brandon in 1974. Gudrun was very proud of her Icelandic heritage - documenting family history, organizing family reunions, working avidly with the Icelandic Canadian Club of Western Manitoba and visiting family in Iceland on many occasions. Gudrun also enjoyed traveling with family and friends, most recently she and Gordon enjoyed a month in China with friends. Gudrun was very industrious - gardening, making clothes for her children and grandchildren, knitting Icelandic sweaters, preparing authentic Icelandic food for every family function, fixing almost anything and working on her Bachelor of Arts Degree while raising her children. Outside of her home, Gudrun was active with Brownies, Scouts Canada and preparing tax returns at H&R Block, where she was sometimes known as "Mrs. Goody." Above all, Gudrun was a devoted wife, mother and Amma. She did so much for all of us and gave unselfishly of herself. Well love you forever, well like you for always, as long as were living, our Wife/Mom/Amma youll be. You will be in our hearts forever. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 24 at 1:30 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 114 Ashgrove Blvd., Brandon, with Reverends Ted Jannuska and Phyllis Thordarson officiating. Viewing will be held prior to the service. Interment will be at the Big Point Cemetery in Langruth, Man., in the spring. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the BRHCs ICU and the Assiniboine Centre for their excellent care and comfort provided to Gudrun during her stay. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Falkinn-Icelandic Canadian Club of Western Manitoba Scholarship Fund in care of Mrs. Helen Eiriksson, 158 - 15th St. N., Brandon, Man., R7A 2T9, or Redeemer Lutheran Church Building Fund or a charity of ones choice.
