EVELYN BUDNICK It is with great sadness that the family of Evelyn Budnick (Krajarski) announces her passing on Monday, February 19, 2001. Evelyn was a very special woman to her loving husband Emil and her children and grandchildren who will miss her greatly. She is survived by her husband Emil, her son Paul (Barbara), daughters Carol, Louise Bellhouse (David) and granddaughters Christine and Karen Budnick, Erika and Laura Bellhouse, sister Connie Grainger (Lorne) and predeceased by her brother Ted Krajcarski. Evelyn was born November 2, 1914 in Winnipeg. In her youth she was very athletic playing baseball, basketball and tennis. Evelyn as a member of the 1936 Winnipeg "Olympias" was inducted into the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame in 1984. After working for the federal government in Ottawa, she returned home to Winnipeg to be married in 1943 and devoted herself to raising her family. She always wanted to attend University and when her children were mature she realized her goal by obtaining her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Winnipeg and a Certificate in Education from the University of Manitoba. This lead to her teaching elementary school in Winnipeg and working for the federal government once more. After her retirement she volunteered at the Winnipeg Art Gallery and the Manitoba Crafts Guild. She was very artistic and enjoyed sewing, knitting, batik, weaving and cooking. Her love of travel took her and her husband throughout Europe, Russian, Australia, Mexico and North America. She was devoted to her grandchildren and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. She enjoyed attending the ballet, theatre, symphony and playing the piano. She accompanied her husband when he sang with the Happy Homesteaders. The family would like to express their gratitude to Laura Devlin and the staff of the 2nd floor at 333 Maryland for their exceptional care during the past year. A memorial celebration of Evelyns life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 23 at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage, entrance on Aubrey.
