Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHALLDOR H. EASTMAN It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of their beloved Dad, Afi and Lang Afi on February 20, 2001 at the Gimli Betel Home, at the age of 91 years. Dori was born November 1, 1909 at Icelandic River, married Herdis in 1933 and lived in Riverton for most of his life. In later years, due to ill health, he moved to Red River Place in Selkirk and just recently to Betel Home in Gimli. Dad loved the lake and he spent 50 years as a commercial fisherman on Lake Winnipeg. Some of our fondest memories are times spent visiting Mom and Dad at the fishing camp in Frog Bay. Dori also worked at seasonal jobs including millwork and caretaking at the Riverton Skating Rink. Dori was known for his love of horses which started out with his team consisting of his favourites, Polly and Charlie. Dori was a loving father and a devoted Afi to his grandchildren. Whenever Afi came to visit his pockets were always full of treats. Family was very important to Dad throughout his life and we are comforted by the thought that he is now reunited with his beloved ones that had gone on before. He leaves to cherish his memory Margaret (Steini Sigvaldason), Alfred (Sandra), Gladys (Robert Gudmundson), Halldor (Pat), Irene, Rosemarie (Roger Maksymchuk) grandchildren, Beverly (Ray), Connie (Perry), Ardis (Shaene), Tracy (Dwight), Todd (Danielle), Jennifer (David), Jason, Erin, Michelle (Rob), Heidi, Christy, Kelly, Michael, David; great-grandchildren, Erik, Kolten, Cody, Kyle and Ashley; sisters-in-law, Helga Dahlman and Marie Eastman; numerous nieces, nephews and friends who were all very special to him. Predeceased by his beloved wife Herdis in 1984; his great-grandson Kristjan; his parents, Halldor and Anna; his brothers, Gus, Halli, John and Herb; sisters, Lauga, Valdheidur, Anna, Hanna and Solla. Funeral service will be held Monday, February 26 at 2:00 p.m. in the Riverton-Hnausa Lutheran Church with Pastor Trudy Sluth officiating. Interment following in the Riverton Community Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Todd, Michael, Rob and David, and sons, Dori and Alfred. At his request, honorary pallbearers will be his nephews, Baldi, Norman, Allan, Rudy, Gisli and Harvey. The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the staff of Betel Home, Gimli, and Red River Place, Selkirk for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Riverton-Hnausa Lutheran Church. "You have come down to the lakeshore seeking neither the wise nor the wealthy, but only asking for me to follow. Kindly smiling youve called out my name. On the sand I have abandoned my skiff; now with you I will seek other seas." Goda nott elsku afi. Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli-Selkirk in care of arrangements.
