Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPATRICIA ANNE HICKS (nee BURAK) On Wednesday, February 21, 2001, after a 23 year fight with cancer and peacefully surrounded by her loving family, Patricia left this world to be welcomed into the arms of Jesus. Patricia was born on November 22, 1938, to Michael and Stephania Burak of Sylvan, Man. The eldest of seven children, she grew up on the family farm, then moved to Winnipeg at the age of 16 to find work. Pat married the love of her life, Edward (Ted) Hicks on June 29, 1957, and lived in Winnipeg until 1959, at which time they resided in Teulon, Man. until 1964 and returned to Winnipeg to live and raise their family. She was a member of the C.W.L. at St. Vianney Church in Teulon, Man., Blessed Sacrament and St. Edwards Churches in Winnipeg. In raising her three children, Pat passed on to them her love, courage and inner strength which knew no boundaries. Pat was a warm, gentle, caring and nurturing wife, mother, and grandmother, happiest when surrounded by the love and laughter of her children, grandchildren, family and friends. Nothing gave Mom more joy than to spend time with her five precious grandchildren. She was taken from us far too soon, but we will keep her alive in our hearts, thoughts and memories forever. Pats faith in God granted her the strength to be with us until the young age of 62, against what seemed like countless encounters with her health. To cherish her loving memory, Pat is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 43 years, Ted; her three children, Joseph (Krista) Hicks, Winnipeg, Jennifer (Brett) Duseigne, Winnipeg, and Jewel (Anier) Kamfoly, Brandon, Man.; five grandchldren, Ashley and Dustin Hicks, Nicole Duseigne and Taylor and Tori Kamfoly; sisters, Marie (Terry) Stawychny, Fort St. John, B.C., Emily Stattin, Edson, Alta., and Linda (Don) Cymbalisty, Fisher Branch, Man.; brothers, John (Nellie) Burak, Arborg, and Allan (Jacquie) Burak, Winfield, B.C.; and sister-in-law Shirley Burak, Winnipeg, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Pat was predeceased by her parents Michael and Stella Burak and one brother George. The family wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude to Dr. A. Cooke and the staff of St. Boniface Hospital, CancerCare Manitoba, and to Dr. Garcia and the nursing staff of E3 at Riverview Health Centre, who cared for Pat with much care and compassion. Prayers for Mom will be held on Tuesday, February 27 at 6:00 p.m. in St. Peters Roman Catholic Church, 748 Keewatin Street, Winnipeg, with Msgr. Maurice Comeault presiding. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 28 at 10:00 a.m. also in St. Peters Church. At Pats request cremation has taken place. A private interment will follow at a later date. In keeping with Moms unselfish ways and generous spirit, flowers are gratefully declined and donations can be made to the Childrens Wish Foundation of Canada, (Manitoba Chapter), 350 St. Mary Ave., Wpg, MB, R3C 3Z7. This was the life of a wonderful and lovely lady, who leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love and kindness. "VICHNAYA PAMYAT" "AFTERGLOW" Id like the memory of me to be a happy one, Id like to live an afterglow of smiles when life is done, Id like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days, Id like the tears of those who grieve to dry before too long, And cherish those very special memories to which I belong.
