Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySOPHIE HRYCHYSHYN (1909 - 2001) On Thursday, February 22, 2001, peacefully at the Betel Home, Selkirk, Sophie Hrychyshyn aged 91 years. She was predeceased by her husband Peter in 1980; her only daughter Mary Slogan in 1994 and brothers, Peter, John and William. Sophie is survived by son-in-law Dr. Joseph Slogan; grandchildren, Mark, Patti and Jamie and great-granddaughter Christina Slogan. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Lillian Gurski of Winnipeg. Sophie was born on October 10, 1909 in Celo Veshewchyk, Povit Peremeshliany, Western Ukraine and came to Canada in the late 1920s. She married Peter in 1930 and enjoyed a long and happy marriage. They lived in various towns in northern Ontario and Manitoba while he worked for the C.P.R. and finally settled in Selkirk in the early 1960s. Sophie was very talented at various types of needlepoint for which she won several awards. She was an avid gardener and homemaker and she was always ready with anything from delicious homemade pies to pickles and everything in between for all to enjoy. She and Peter were both very active members of the Holy Eucharist Parish. She was a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, whose greatest joy was spending time with her family. Prayers will be said on Monday, February 26 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 27 at 10:30 a.m. in the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church with Fr. Harry Oliynck officiating. Interment to follow the service in the All Saints Cemetery, Rivercrest, Man. Heartfelt thanks to the caring staff of the Betel Home, Selkirk and special thanks to Mary McLeod for all her help. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Betel Home Foundation, 212 Manchester Ave., Selkirk, MB or to the Holy Eucharist Parish, 271 Sophia St., Selkirk, MB or to a charity of ones choice.
