BETTY GIBSON July 14, 1911 - February 23, 2001 On February 23, Betty formerly of Brandon, MB went to her eternal rest in the arms of the Lord. Betty was a great inspiration to many people and quietly touched the lives of everyone who knew her. Some will remember her as their very best teacher, others, as their favorite principal, professor, educator, advisor, tutor, childrens author, head mistress, humanitarian and friend - but to those closest to her she will always be remembered as "Auntie Betty." Betty was born in Brandon where she began her career and lifelong dedication to educating children. Betty received numerous awards for her work in teaching, the Phi Lambda Theta Scholarship at Harvard University, and an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Brandon University. Two of her fondest career memories were the opening of the Betty Gibson School in Brandon in 1975 and receiving the first copy of the book she had written - "The Story of Little Quack". Her greatest joy was to see a child with learning disabilities respond to her coaching and move ahead with his contemporaries. Betty also enjoyed travelling worldwide and was a long time member of St. Georges Anglican Church. Betty is survived by her brother Jack (Betha), nephews, Jack, Barry, George, niece Betty Anne, along with their families. Betty will be particularly missed by her great niece Wendy Jacobsen (Ken) and children, Jamie and Bryan and by Shadow. The family would like to thank the staff at Maples Personal Care Home. Cremation has taken place and at her request a private family interment will take place at a later date.
