JAMES STEPHEN LADOSKI November 25, 1909 - February 24, 2001 James passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 24. He will be sorrowfully missed by his loving wife Olive, son James Gordon and wife Trygvine, grandchildren Eric (Anika), Wendy (Wolfgang), Colin, and Heather (Michael) great-grandchildren Tiffany, Michael and Kristen. He will also be missed by his sister Stella Joba, nephews Jim and Lawrence Romaniuk, nieces Eleanor Kullberg and Lorraine Hercus. James was predeceased by his granddaughter Tina (1961), brother Walter (1960s) and sister Emily Romaniuk (February 2000). James was born in western Ukraine and came to Canada as a child with his family who homesteaded in Ledwyn, Manitoba. He spent many years in the store business in Seven Sisters Falls and Bissett with brother Walter; in Riverton with brother-in-law Gus and later owned a grocery store in Vancouver until 1950. In his youth, James worked at Jasper Park and Minaki Lodge and throughout his life was a salesman, an outdoorsman, a miner, fur grader and buyer. In the fifties he supervised the Beaver Creek Park project north of Riverton. He later moved to Winnipeg and was employed as Managing Bartender at the Kirkfield Hotel and Georgies where he made many friends over the next 20 years until his retirement in 1976. James was known for his friendly nature and generosity. His family treasured his ability to exude a feeling of great pride and value. He cherished those near to him and was grateful for any kindness or service bestowed on him. James was known for his ability to relate events and stories of the good old days, and for his charisma, violin playing and beautiful handwriting. His radiant presence will be missed by all who knew him. Special thanks to Dr. Mueller and the staff of Deer Lodge Centre for excellent and compassionate care in his final days. Thanks also to the Central Park Lodge staff and also to Dr. Ramgoolam and staff at Misericordia Place where he lived over the past year, and for the Misericordia Chapel Service memoriam on February 25, 2001. Pallbearers will be grandsons Eric and Colin; Wolfgang Peppel, Michael Kolbuck, David Romaniuk, Kris Oleson and Terry Hercus. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, March 1 at 11:00 am at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Highway. Pastor Brad Schollenberg of Peace Lutheran Church is officiating. Interment will follow at Ledwyn Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
