Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER HENRY FUNK Peacefully at home on February 22, 2001, my Husband, our Dad and our Opa, passed away. Saddened family members include his dear wife Elfriede; his children, Erich, Henni (Reg) Dyck, Luise (Don) McBeth and Erika (Hart) Federau; his grand-children, Kirsten, Benjamin, Kimberley, Kerri, Michael and David will miss his company. He is also survived by his brother Heinrich (Lotte) Funk of Germany; his sister Agnes (Jake) Braun; his brothers, John (Elsie) Funk and John (Anne) Klassen all of Winnipeg, numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; two sisters; his in-laws; one brother-in-law and one nephew. Peter was born August 26, 1930 in Steinfeld, Ukraine. In 1948, relatives sponsored his family to come to Canada. There he met and married Elfriede in 1954. Prior to their marriage, he was baptized on confession of his faith in 1951. He worked at J & H Motors, but left in 1957 to pursue other opportunities. He became involved with Kustom Plastics and later he and his partners incorporated J.P.G. Investments. Encouraged by John Sifton, (owner of the Winnipeg Free Press) and R.C. Owen (Owen Transport), he opened his own business, Pointe Douglas Autobody in 1966. Pointe Douglas Auto became a well known business in the community and was awarded various contracts, the largest being the Wpg. Gas Co., the Wpg. Free Press and the Wpg. Police Dept. His drive, determination and hard work gave him the incentive to initiate other business ventures. In 1969, Bestview Builders was established, followed by the acquisition of Western Machine Works in 1972 and Pointe Douglas Service Centre in 1976. For many years, Peter was also a silent partner in Chase Autobody Supplies. He pursued many other business holdings and interests and had a natural ability to foresee opportunities. Many people benefited in their own quest for success through his generosity. Peter loved the outdoors and the family spent many weekends at Grand Marais and "The Island" in Lake of the Woods. His grandchildren will have fond memories of their trips with Oma and Opa to Disney World. He retired to Kelowna in the 90s, where more leisure time and the warmer climate allowed him to resume his love for golf. He also enjoyed his rose bushes, fruit trees and landscaping. A Memorial Service in celebration of his life will be held on Friday, March 9, at 2:00 p.m. at Springfield Heights Mennonite Church, 570 Sharron Bay, Winnipeg. For those who wish, donations may be made in Peters memory to the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation, 2268 Pandosy St., Kelowna, B.C, V1Y 1T3, attention: Palliative Care Program, PRT.
