STEPHEN "STEVE" NORMAN SWABUK Suddenly, on Sunday, February 25, 2001 at the Portage District General Hospital, Stephen Norman Swabuk, of Portage la Prairie, beloved husband of Pauline Swabuk, passed away at the age of 83 years. Funeral service will be held in the chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Friday, March 2 at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Ross Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Steve was born in Portage la Prairie where he was raised and received his education. His early employment was a farm hand, then moving on and working for the Canadian Pacific Railroad. During the Second World War he served with the Royal Canadian Air Force as a LAC for four years. After the war he returned to work for the CPR as a telegraph agent. During the war he met Pauline in Winnipeg and they were married on April 7, 1943. Steve was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch and a member of the Portage Golf Course where he was a past Club Champion. He loved to dance, bowl and curl. He enjoyed writing humourous poetry. Home was the Lions Prairie Manor for the two years prior to his passing. Predeceased by his brothers, Jack and Alan; his sister May Marks, he leaves to mourn his passing his wife Pauline; three daughters, Janet (Gene) Lacroix of Poplar Point, Gail (Don) Harker of Oak Harbour, Washington, Lynne Swabuk of Winnipeg; six grandchildren, Michael, Adam, Bobbi, Stephanie, Paul, Matthew, and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Walter (Joyce), Stanley (Esther) sisters, Bernice (Bill) Smith, Violet (Regis) Hanley, Jean (Mike) Petalka, Rose Winett; sister-in-law Wilma Swabuk and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the funeral home for visitation on Thursday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Lions Prairie Manor Foundation Inc., 24 - 9th Street N.E., Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 3V4.
