Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLIVER ARTHUR BARRY PLATT Peacefully, with his family at his side, after a courageous struggle with heart disease, Oliver (Bud) Platt passed away at the age of 75 years on February 26, 2001. He was born in Winnipeg on November 8, 1925. Bud will be sorely missed and always remembered by his loving wife of 46 years, Ruby (nee Jory) son Arthur (Kathy) of Neepawa, MB; daughter Ruth Batchelar (Ross Long) of Douglas, MB; and daughter Esther Ellchuk (Leonard) of Winnipeg. Bud will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Isaac, Ian, Holly, Madison, Megan, Scott, Brian, Alexander and Andrew. Bud is also survived by his loving sister Doris Miller and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Marjorie Platt; and by his brothers, William and Robert. He was a very special husband, brother, dad, grandpa and friend. Bud was born in the family home on Kingsbury Avenue and raised in West Kildonan. As a boy he loved to play soccer, carve airplanes and build other things from wood with his brothers. Family summer holidays at Winnipeg Beach were a fun and much anticipated part of his early life. After completing high school in 1944, Bud joined the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. After training in Canada and England as a radio operator, he served in Holland and was discharged in 1946. On returning to Canada, Dad worked at Ashdowns and Northern Paint in Winnipeg. He joined MTS in 1952 and worked there for 35 years. Initially, he was a cable splicer and later was a much appreciated foreman. He was a hard worker and often put in long days. In the years prior to retirement he supervised crews installing telephone service in large downtown buildings. Bud was offered office jobs, but preferred to continue working outside. Family and faith were dearest to Buds heart. Grandchildren were the joy of his life and he was a very special Grandpa to them. He especially enjoyed family gatherings. He and Ruby often travelled to visit with their children and grandchildren. Bud had a wonderfully contagious sense of humour which enlivened any gathering. He was both handy and creative. It seemed as though Bud could fix or repair just about anything. He was also very skilled working with wood and refinishing. Buds strength was God, Jesus and The Holy Spirit. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 1 at 10:00 a.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1858 Portage Ave. The family would like to say special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the MICU unit at Health Sciences Centre for the excellent care that Bud received during his illness. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Oliver Platt may be made to the Canadian Intensive Care Foundation or World Vision Canada. LEATHERDALE GARDINER 1858 Portage Avenue 949-4872
