LORNE DOUGLAS RELKE It is with great sadness that we inform you that on February 8, 2001 at the Centinela Hospital in Los Angeles, California, Lorne died as the result of a cerebral aneurysm. Lorne and his wife were en route to Mexico for an overdue holiday. Lorne was the friend and true love of Katherine Relke, his wife of 28 years. Lorne leaves his children, Christopher, Michael and Laura, to mourn his death and celebrate his life. Lorne leaves his mother Irene A. Legal to miss him. Lorne will be missed by his sisters, Renee (Barry) and Judy (Russ) and his brother Bruce (Joan). Lorne will be missed by his nieces and nephews, Candace, Todd and Crystal (Johnson), Michelle and Jim (Blood), Curtis and Kyle (Relke). Lorne will be missed by his mother-in-law Katarina Dziawa; his brothers-in-law, Victor and Peter; his sister-in-law Laura (Tom) and numerous relatives and friends. Lorne was predeceased by his father (1973) and brother-in-law Barry (1997). Lorne was born on March 26, 1951 in Winnipeg, MB to Jack and Irene Relke. He was educated in Winnipeg and began his 30-year career as a Journeyman Pressman beginning with the Winnipeg Free Press. Shortly after, he went to work for the Winnipeg Tribune. When the "Trib" folded in 1980, he was given the opportunity to work for the Calgary Herald. In the fall of 1980, Lorne and his family moved to Calgary. In 1993, Lorne and his family moved to Edmonton due to yet another job opportunity. Until his passing, he was employed by the Edmonton Journal. Even with the numerous friends that Lorne made during his lifetime (and he cherished each and every one of them), the family was always his priority. He was a member of the G.C.I.U.; he enjoyed the game of golf; music; and riding his motorcycle. Lorne will be remembered as being a great and gentle man. His sense of humour, his charming personality, his kind face, and his sense of responsibility and loyalty to his family will sustain us until we meet him again. It was Lornes decision to leave a legacy of life and with that, he became an organ donor. In honour of this act of selfless giving, the request has been granted. A private family service was held on February 17 in Edmonton. A memorial service officiated by Pastor Darryl Roste will be held at 2:00 p.m. on March 3 at the Mount Zion Lutheran Church, 11533 135 St., Edmonton (780) 455-3638.
