Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGILLIAN (GILL) WEST (nee McCARTNEY) After a long and hard six year battle with cancer caused by asbestos, Gill finally found peace on February 28, 2001, with her family at her side. Gill leaves to mourn her passing her husband Bob of 40 years; son Tim (Rachel) daughter Terry (Keith) and son Rob; also the pride of her life who made her fight even harder to stay longer, her grandson Tyler; sister Pat Mace; three nieces, Kelly, Kim and Sherri (Brittany, Amanda, Cameron) sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Rick and Val West, Kathy and Jim Lounsbury, Betty and Cliff Neiser and Shirley West; many other nieces and nephews; a special aunt and uncle in British Columbia, Jim and Velma Wall. She was predeceased by her twin sister Jackie; father Jack; mother Joan; niece Carmen; nephew Jimmy; brothers-in-law, Barry, Doug and Allan; mother-in-law Dorothy. Gill moved to Canada from England when she was four, residing in St. James until she married, spending the last 33 years in East Kildonan. She worked at The Bay downtown for 22 years. She then went to Jostens Canada, where she worked until her illness. Gill loved gardening and still managed to plant a beautiful flower garden last year where she enjoyed just sitting listening to the birds and watching her flowers grow. She enjoyed spending time with her family and neighbours and cherished the hours she spent with her grandson. Having been told there was nothing that could be done for her type of cancer, Gill was put in touch with a wonderful person in Thunder Bay, Pierre Bowen, who gave her hope and a positive attitude. Without him she would have never made it so far, sadly to say he passed away in June. Knowing her cancer was getting worse she went on the Internet and found two doctors who offered to help her. We would like to thank Dr. Harvey Pass and Dr. Fontanesi of the Detroit Medical Centre for their help over the last one and a half years. Also, thanks to Dr. G. Welch in Winnipeg. The family would like to thank Riverview Health Centre. Special thanks to the Winnipeg Hospital Authority for making it possible for Gill to spend her last weeks at home with her family. Gill would like to thank her neighbours and relatives for their support over the last six years. Most of her thanks go to her husband Bob, who despite many ordeals was always there for her. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, March 3 at Knysh Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main St. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Childrens Wish Foundation.
