BENNETT PAGE WEST Peacefully, on February 28, 2001, Ben, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away at the age of 74 years, at the Health Sciences Centre. Ben was predeceased by his loving wife Anita Theresa in 1992. He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Cathy (Allen) Trowsdale, Brian (Joanne), John (Annette), Theresa(John)McCoy, Lorne(Debbie), Karen (Lynn) Kletke; his beloved grandchildren, Jacqueline (Brian) Boonstra, Michael and Jennifer West, Denise (Jamus) Young, Christine (Brandon) Mahoney, David Laurendeau, Jessica and Meagan West, Laurie and Thomas McCoy, Paige and Marshall West and his great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Emily Boonstra, Matthew West, Patrick and Celina Mahoney and his sister Dorothy (Vic) Torfason and family Ben was born and raised in Winnipeg and later graduated from the University of Waterloo with a degree in Optometry. Ben married his true love, Anita in 1950. They moved to Carman, Man. where Ben started his career in Optometry and they began their family. In 1960 they returned to Winnipeg and settled in Transcona. He practiced his profession at The Bay-Downtown until his retirement in 1991. Ben was an active member in the Knights of Columbus, beginning his brotherhood in 1966. Through the years he demonstrated his Charity, Unity, Fraternalism and Patriotism to the order as he rose to the position of State Deputy in 1985. Bens greatest joys were spending time with his family, summers at Winnipeg Beach, and attending the many Knights of Columbus and Optometric functions. He also enjoyed swimming, cooking and reading a good book. The family would like to thank all the staff at the Concordia Hospital, the Health Sciences Centre and the Home Care Programs, for all of their love and compassion shown to Dad over the past months. Prayer Vigil will be said on Sunday, March 4 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 505 Brewster Street, Transcona. Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Monday, March 5 at 10:30 a.m. also at the church with Father Wenceslao Rebillaco officiating. Interment to follow at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Hwy. #1 East. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102 - 310 Broadway, Wpg, MB, R3C 0S6. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
