KATHERINE (KATIE) ZALUSKY (nee Nazarewich) On February 28, 2001, at the Selkirk General Hospital, Mrs. Katie (Katherine) Zalusky, aged 100 years, a longtime resident of Libau, Man., dearly beloved wife of the late Steve Zalusky. Katie leaves to mourn her passing three sons, John of Libau, Walter of Tyndall, Peter of Kamloops, B.C.; daughters, Mrs. Ted Berezowski (Helen) of Sunderland, Ont., Stella Zolondek of Selkirk, Man., Mrs. Jack Baird (Frances) of Markham, Ont., Vi (Violet) Cherny of Winnipeg and Mrs. Frank Martens (Jane) of Betula, Man.; sisters, Mary Andrusenki of California and Pauline Wdowiak of Toronto; one surviving brother John Nazarewich of Sapton, Man.; 24 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Born in Sapton on January 1, 1901, Katie met Steve and homesteaded in Libau where she raised her family, lived and farmed her whole life. She loved her garden and her flowers, and she was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Her favourite love was making pies. Prayers will be said on Monday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk. Mass of Resurrection will be held on Tuesday, March 6 at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Josephs Polish National Catholic Church, Libau, with Fr. Msgr. Wesley Cwieka officiating. Interment to follow in the Parish Cemetery, Libau. Katies grandsons will act as her pallbearers. The family would like to thank the nurses at the Selkirk General Hospital and Dr. Baria and the staff on U3 at the Seven Oaks General Hospital. Flowers are gratefully declined; donations may be made to a charity of ones choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
