Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOSTAP (STAN) KISCHUK Beloved husband of Mary (Kraynyk), died peacefully on Friday, March 2, 2001, at the Vita Health Centre. Born in Vita, Man., on February 5, 1921, Ostap (Stan) grew up four miles north of Vita and attended Shevchenko School. He was predeceased by his father Peter on January 15, 1973; mother Elena on August 7, 1977 and brother William (Bill) Kischuk in December of 1991. Stans memory will be cherished by his wife Mary of 47 years and sister-in-law Mary (Bill) Kischuk and his nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews. From Marys family he leaves to mourn Margaret (Peter) Baryliuk, Florence (Fred) Kraynyk, Ann (Mike) Kraynyk, Emily (Nick) Kraynyk, Bill and Georgia Kraynyk and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. During his lifetime, Stan worked at various jobs, initially in bush camps, mines, and the Highway Department. Following his marriage to Mary on September 4, 1954, he was employed with the Canadian National Railways as a Porter till 1959. Dreams of owning their business, Stan and Mary started building a Service station and Restaurant in 1958 and officially opened it in June of 1959, known as the Evergreen Service and Restaurant at Zhoda corner. In 1969, the Zhoda Post Office was moved to their premises and the place was renamed as Zhoda Service and Restaurant. They sold their business in 1979 and remained living in Zhoda till 1989. At that time, they moved to their new home in Vita and have resided there since. Community affairs was important to Stan. He was President of the Pansy Chamber of Commerce for several years, President of the Zhoda Hall for 7 years, President of the Vita North Cemetery, President of the Ukrainian National Home of Vita and Chairman of the Bingo Committee. He also served in the church community of St. Demetrius and was very instrumental in the construction of the Vita Catholic Parish Centre. Stan had many interests in life including playing the violin, accordion, guitar and his favourite, the cymbaly. In his younger years, he played in different bands with friends and family. Stan especially enjoyed entertaining at family events playing several tunes on the violin. And most recently, despite his illness, "Uncle Stan" played joyfully the cymbaly for his grand nieces wedding reception in July of 2000. Other interests of Stans were working on his farm in Arbakka, cutting cord wood and breaking land while enjoying the peacefulness of the outdoors. He as well enjoyed the comradery of friends and neighbours at the local coffee shops. Prayers will be held at the Loewen Funeral Chapel in Steinbach on Monday, March 5 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral mass to be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., from the Vita St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church with Father Ihor Royik officiating. Interment will follow at the Vita North Cemetery. Pallbearers are his nephews, Walter, Orest and Dennis Kischuk, Taras Kraynyk, John Baryliuk and David Kraynyk.
