DOROTHY ANN PRENDERGAST (nee SWEETIE) With courage and dignity, Dorothy passed away peacefully at the Deer Lodge Centre on Friday, March 2, 2001, after a lengthy battle with lung disease. Dorothy was born on March 7, 1919 in Winnipeg. She married Harry Prendergast May 6, 1938, and Olive Street was "home" for over 50 years. Although Dorothy had many jobs during her work career, the role of which she was most proud was that of Switchboard Supervisor, TAS Pagette; she retired in March 1984 after 24 years of service. Predeceased by husband, Harry (Pinky) sisters, Hazel Ruppel, Ruth Kittle, Mildred Kittle, Doris Walton; brother Harold Sweetie; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elsie and Horace Hamilton, Edith and George Stafford, Madge and George Varty, Norman Prendergast (Dibby) niece Marilyn (Ted) Powles. Dorothy will be sadly missed by son Dr. Harry Prendergast of Denver, CO; nieces, Joan (Jack) Powell, Bonnie (Al) Kozlowski; sister-in-law, Ruby Prendergast (Terry, Norma, Karen) of Vancouver, BC; great-nieces and nephews; and friend Gwen Bennett. A most devoted wife and mother, Dot was the epitome of unselfishness. Although petite, she was strong, and stood tall in her example. Maintaining a shrewd business acumen throughout her life, she was stoic, kind, generous, loyal, and hard working. She loved to cook and sew, garden, read, dance, and entertain. Many cats were benefactors of her love and affection! The family wishes to extend appreciation to the staff of Oakview Place, where Dorothy spent the last eight years, particularly those who "went the extra mile" for her. We would also like to thank the staff at Deer Lodge Centre for their kindness. In accordance with Dorothys wishes, no service will be held. Interment will be at a later date. Should friends so desire, memorial donations in Dorothys memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Rd. Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3. "It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone, for part of us went with you, the day God called you home". LEATHERDALE GARDINER 1858 Portage Avenue 949-4872
